The Alaska Grandma Safe Shootin' Challenge is a fun and friendly safety and promotional campaign established to help spread the word of firearm safety and safe and responsible participation in the shooting sports. One goal of the campaign is to encourage community members to learn more about (and get involved with) the Alaska Department of Fish and Game Hunter Education Indoor Shooting Range in Fairbanks, Alaska. The challenge features three friendly grandmas from the community who are active shooters and hunters and who wish to help encourage others to get involved and to go shooting! The grandmas challenge others to take the Safe Shootin' Challenge, an easy-to-shoot course of fire that includes shooting a .22-caliber rifle and also a .22-caliber pistol.
One of the messages of the campaign is that shooting is fun and that anyone - with some time and practice - can shoot well and shoot safely. Community businesses have partnered with ADF&G to help sponsor the challenge and to offer weekly prizes for both the high score of the week and also for a random drawing from all entries received for each of the 15 weekly periods of the challenge (December 1, 2011, through March 31, 2012). The shooters who fire the top 10 scores during the challenge will be invited to participate in the TOP 10 FInal Shoot, scheduled for Sunday, April 1, 2012, starting at 4 p.m. The grand prize package for the overall winner includes a brand new .22-caliber pistol from Frontier Outfitters, a $50 gift coupon to Papa John's pizza, an "All-Summer Pass" for the Fish and Game Range and more!
